The concept of “government failure” is well understood in economic theory. Due to information asymmetry and bureaucratic complexity, government sometimes misunderstands the “problem” and promotes the wrong solution.

With the exception of South Africa and Egypt, COVID-19 infections in Africa have remained low relative to other regions. Although this could still change, quick action and known methods of curbing infections may save the continent from a crisis that could overwhelm healthcare services and public finances.

The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the judicial system. It caused courts to shut down most of its activities and only urgent matters, those involving children and domestic violence cases were dealt with. Justice was delayed in most cases. However, the pandemic pushed the courts to enter an exciting era of digital adjudication.

The year 2020 has been unprecedented and filled with mortality and despair. Billions of people all over the world have either directly or indirectly been affected by COVID-19; with many showing remarkable resilience and compassion during this time.
