Nolwazi Mbuyisa

I am a twenty-three-year-old from a small town of the lower South Coast. Ever since I was young, I have discovered my own definition of success, which is to always persevere even in the face of adversity.

I am a Bachelor of Commerce graduate who majored in Supply Chain and Economics. I am motivated by my love for learning and succeeding as I strive to become an outstanding and successful woman in this modern-day society.

Growing up, my interests where extra-curricular activities such as swimming, hockey, and dancing. During this time, I represented Ugu in the under-14 hockey team and Imotion Dance Studio in the KZN Champions. When I learnt about the inequalities affecting indigenous communities, my interests shifted, and I started joining organisations that help improve the livelihoods of the less fortunate.

After joining NPOs at church and at high school, I was made aware of social justice issues such as the poverty gap and the inequality our country is faced with. I was especially made aware of these issues in neighbouring communities and in surrounding areas. Many of our people are faced with unfortunate circumstances that contribute to poverty in their families and in their communities. I tried to do what I could to alleviate and help uplift their standards of living so that they themselves can have opportunities equal to those of more privileged South Africans. These people and communities need the chance to achieve their dreams and aspirations without having to go the extra mile.

The goal I am currently striving for is to make this world a better place to live in by starting the changes with myself. It is my belief that it is only through introspection and self-development that I will be able to help others and be a better person to the people around me and at my workplace. Seeing as my personalised meaning of success does not lie in what I have achieved, but what I do with my achievements to help others; working with IESHER will allow me to merge my career and passion to help society and in turn, grant me the success I envision for myself. IESHER will help pave the way and guide me to be an effective member of society who will bring the change we only dream of in this country, which is to uplift those that have been deprived of economic opportunities
